Nanotechnology is receiving a lot of attention of late across the globe. The term nano originates etymologically from the Greek, and it means dwarf. The term indicates physical dimensions that are in the range of one-billionth (10 9) of a meter. This scale is called colloquially nanometer scale, or also nanoscale. One nanometer is approximately the length of two hydrogen atoms. Nanotechnology relates to the design, creation, and utilization of materials whose constituent structures exist at the nanoscale; these constituent structures can, by convention, be up to 100 nm in size.1 3 Nanotechnology is a growing eld that explores electrical, optical, and magnetic activity as well as structural behavior at the molecular and submolecular level. One of the practical applications of nanotechnology (but certainly not the only one) is the science of constructing computer chips and other devices using nanoscale building elements. This book is a basic practical survey of this eld with an eye on computing and telecom applications. The nanoscale dimension is important because quantum mechanical (nonNewtonian) properties of electronics, photons, and atoms are evident at this scale. Nanoscale structures permit the control of fundamental properties of materials without changing the materials chemical status. When you re in paper space, you can view your drawing only through floating viewports. To enter a paper space layout, simply click the layout button on the status bar. If you are using tabs, click a layout tab. By default, you see one floating viewport through which you can view your model. An example is shown in Figure 17-2. The paper space icon and the layout tab confirm that you re looking at a paper space layout.

The USP general chapter <1078> outlines the GMP guidelines for bulk pharmaceutical excipients [11]. The guideline states that building and facilities should be designed so that operations performed within do not contribute to an actual or potential contamination of the excipient. An effective and regular cleaning program of equipment used is recommended to remove product residues and dirt, which may also contain microorganisms and act as a source of contamination.
